Why does SucuriLabs exist? Our mission and strategy
Our mission
Equip every security engineer to protect their company from email threats.
Why is that our mission?
We believe security engineers should be able to understand why an email is suspicious and do something about it, without spending half their day piecing together evidence. In order to help them do that, we’re building email security tools for the people who actually investigate and stop attacks.
Tools for catching phishing have existed for a long time, but a malicious email doesn’t need a bad link or an attachment. Sometimes it’s a convincing request from someone pretending to be a supplier. Sometimes it’s a real account that’s been compromised. By analyzing messages and checking who’s sending them, we give security engineers more of the context they need to tell the difference.
The other way SucuriLabs helps security engineers is by combining investigation and response in one product. This avoids a ton of work switching between tools, copying message details around, and trying to work out what happened to an email after someone took action on it.
We try to make getting started straightforward. Connect Microsoft 365, import your users and groups, and activate the accounts you want to monitor. Teams can start in detection-only mode to see what we’re finding before turning on active prevention.
Our strategy
1. Be the source of truth for email investigations
Stopping email threats is hard; doing so when you can’t see the full story is even harder. An email can pass authentication and still be malicious. A familiar sender name doesn’t tell you whether a request to change bank details is genuine. You need more than a verdict.
An investigation can mean digging through message headers, checking links and attachments, looking at the sender, and finding out what actions have already been taken. Spread that across a bunch of tools and you wind up with a mess of tabs, logs, and screenshots, with the actual decision still left to someone joining it all up.
By bringing that context together, we can:
- Make detection, investigation, and response more useful when used together
- Give security engineers the evidence behind a verdict, so they can check it themselves
- Automate more of the work using AI across the message and identity context
- Keep the review decision and remediation history alongside the incident
2. Provide the tools security engineers need to stop email threats
We aim to give security teams the tools they need to detect, understand, and stop phishing, business email compromise, vendor email compromise, and supplier impersonation. From seeing why a message was flagged to reviewing its attachments and quarantining it, we want the whole investigation to happen in one place.
We can then get our AI to work across that context, whilst giving engineers the ability to review and override its decisions. The more of the investigation we can handle together, the less time teams spend moving information between tools and repeating the same checks.
3. Help humans communicate
Humans are great at many things, especially communication.
If it weren’t for our ability to tell stories, share knowledge, and collaborate with each other, we wouldn’t have made it this far as a species.
Communication is not only the key to our survival, but also the key to our progress and growth. It’s through communicating ideas that we’ve been able to build societies and technologies, and achieve things that were previously unimaginable.
SucuriLabs exists to make human communication safer. We do that by protecting people from malicious emails.
4. Inspire others to design beautiful software
The world is full of crappy products.
Products that don’t work as expected. Products that are difficult to understand and slow to use. Products that are simply not good. We want to change that.
When we say “design beautiful software”, we don’t mean only building products that are aesthetically pleasing. For us, software that’s easy to use is beautiful. A product that’s fast is beautiful. A product that does what it’s meant to do is beautiful.
SucuriLabs exists to design beautiful software that inspires others. And you can’t inspire people by doing an “okay” job. To inspire, you need to do phenomenal work.
